Easy Som Tum
Easy Som Tum- A couple of weeks ago we uploaded a Som tum recipe. This Isaan favorite is a must for all those who love spicy food! In Thailand, it is relatively easy to make with the ingredients that are available. However, this is not the case in Sweden. Here a Green Papaya can cost upwards of 150 kr(15$)/kg. Yes, a proper Som tum can cost a pretty penny, so to speak.
Although we have translated Som Tum to green papaya salad, it can actually be made using other veggies and fruit. Here we will present a version that uses carrots, corn and kohlrabi, three ingredients that are widely available in Sweden. I used to make this dish as a student with only carrots and corn all the time. We’ve also chosen some other ingredients than can substitute for hard to find ingredients, like caster sugar instead of palm sugar.
What we want to say with this recipe is that you shouldn’t be afraid to experiment with the ingredients. The most important thing is that the flavor component of the dressing is correct. We hope this will encourage you to try and make this at home!
